The Canon EOS 1000D or better known the Canon Rebel XS is the successor of the EOS 400D or Rebel XTR. This is an amazing entry level DSLR that plies straightforward functions and quality optical imaging, allowing enthusiasts to capture vivid and lively images. Here are some of the features enjoyed by scores of the camera's patrons.
Upgrades and downgrades
Being a successor of the EOS 400D, the Canon Rebel XS packs upgrades to the prior, as well as downgrades. The first notable upgrade of this DSLR is the image built-in image stabilization in its detachable Canon EF-s 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. This allows enthusiasts, even the "spot-and-click" users to easily capture amazing pictures in full details without the blur and fuzz.
There is also the live view feature which allows 100% coverage, magnified manual focus assistance, a contrast-based AF option, an alignment grid and a live histogram. With the use of a USB cable to connect to a computer, you can access the EOS utility software and fully control the camera and all of its functions.
Being a cheaper and a lower version of the EOS series, the Rebel XS has some downgrades and that in particular is its slower RAW mode speed which can become useless when it comes to multiple frame shots. Though this may be the case, a lot of 1000D buyers are not bothered with the lack of this feature.
The big guns
Along with the notable upgrades and downgrades are the features that are inherent to the Canon 1000D. The camera comes with a 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor which allows users to capture heavy amount of detail for poster size and photo-quality prints. There is also a large 2.5" LCD for optimum playback view of pictures and videos, great even in bright light.
It comes with a DIGIC III image processor that delivers faster and accurate image processing. This enables the users to capture a moving subject and still get the details in full. Also wonderful in locking on a subject in further distance, not to mention its automatic recognition of faces even in the dark.
Despite all the shortcomings when compared with its higher end predecessor, the Canon Rebel XS is a superb camera in itself. Its features and functions enables its users precision and quality picture taking through intuitively easy interface and buttons. And for an entry-level DSLR, you definitely could not ask for more.
